My Life Before the Tech Bootcamp
Before I decided to finally pursue a career in the tech field, I was working in the electrical distribution field as a lineman contractor in Florida. I always had a passion for technology, but after getting married in 2007 and starting a family, I never thought I would go back to university for a technology degree. It simply wasn’t an option I was willing to pursue.
With two daughters and a rewarding career, I had little time to consider further education. My work provided financial stability and allowed me to build great relationships with co-workers who are like brothers to me, as we trust each other with our lives in this dangerous field.
Chasing Money With No Purpose
Working as a powerline contractor since 2012 allowed me to travel nationally. However, every time I found a better opportunity with higher pay or per diem, I moved to a new company. This is a common culture among electrical distribution contractors. Meanwhile, I was accumulating debt from past decisions, leaving me feeling trapped in a money-driven career with no inner purpose.
I always thought any role with the word “engineer” at the end required a degree. It wasn’t until I worked in Ohio building power lines that I researched entering the tech field and discovered tech bootcamps.
I was tired of working out of state without seeing my family

Living and working in Ohio while sleeping out of my truck to save per diem for my mortgage was taking an emotional toll. At 50 years old, I realized I couldn’t continue this way. I was tired of chasing pay at the cost of my well-being.
My Experience at TripleTen Tech Bootcamp
Once I decided to join the bootcamp, there was no looking back. My days were intense but rewarding. Balancing my studies with a career in the power industry was challenging, yet the supportive community at TripleTen made it manageable. One memorable experience was a group project testing the “Urban Food” application, which emphasized collaboration and time management.
The Skills I Gained
Throughout the bootcamp, I gained proficiency in Quality Assurance (QA) engineering. I developed strong problem-solving and debugging skills and gained expertise in QA methodologies, testing tools, and automation frameworks. Earning my QA Engineering certification boosted my confidence and credibility in the job market.

Today, I work as a Robotics Automation Technician at a tech startup, where I learn about robotics and automation skills daily.
