How I Transitioned to Tech with
TripleTen Bootcamp

My Life Before the Bootcamp
Before I decided to finally pursue a career in the tech field, I was working in the electrical distribution field as a lineman contractor in the state of Florida. I always had a passion for technology, but I never felt that after getting married in 2007 and starting a family, I would ever see myself going back to a university to get a degree in anything related to technology. That just was not going to be an option I was willing to pursue.
I just did not have the time with two daughters and a career that has rewarded me not only financially but also allowed me to build great relationships with co-workers who are like brothers to me, since we spend so much time together traveling and trusting each other with our lives when working in a dangerous field for power companies across the nation.
Chasing Money With No Purpose
Working as a powerline contractor on various systems allowed me to travel on a national level since 2012. Still every time I had a better opportunity with better pay or better per diem, I would leave to work for the next company, that is just the culture amongst electrical distribution contractors. However I still had accumulated debt from decisions in the past that were catching up with me. So basically I felt trapped in working just for money with no inner purpose.
I always assumed that anything with the word “engineer” at the end definitely required a degree of some type. It was not until I was working in Ohio building power lines that I started to really do research on getting into the tech field. This is where I discovered the word “tech bootcamps.”
My Motivation to Join a Tech Bootcamp
My moment of finally deciding to join a tech bootcamp came due to my desire to pursue my passion for technology. I realized that there was or would never be a perfect moment to transform my life. I could no longer wait for the stars to line up for it to be a perfect moment to join. I said to myself, this must be the best time to start transforming my life. Why was this time the right time? I don’t know if it was or not, I just knew, despite making a weekly salary of $2,900 on average, including per diem for lodging and food:
I was tired of working out of state without seeing my family
- ⇓ Tired of working excessive hours with no downtime
- ⇓ Tired of working in below -freezing conditions and hot conditions
- ⇓ Tired of just no longer having the joy for my career.
- ⇓ Tired of the changes in the electrical distribution field.

The combination of living working in Ohio, living and sleeping out of my truck to just save my per diem so I can pay my mortgage back home was starting to catch up to me emotionally. I just was in denial about where my life was going at the age of 50 years old. I said to myself, I can’t continue to work like this any longer, I was just tired of chasing great pay no matter the distance, or the wear and tear on my body.
My Experience at TripleTen Bootcamp
Once I made the decision to join the bootcamp, there was no looking back. My days were intense but incredibly rewarding. Balancing studies with a career in the power industry was challenging, but the supportive community at TripleTen made it manageable. One memorable moment was a group project where we tested the functionality of an app called “Urban Food” application—an experience that taught me the importance of collaboration and time management.
The Skills I Gained
Throughout the bootcamp, I gained proficiency in Quality Assurance (QA) engineering. I developed strong problem-solving and debugging skills, as well as expertise in QA methodologies, testing tools, and automation frameworks. I earned a certification in QA Engineering, boosting my confidence and credibility in the job market.
How These Skills Led to My Job in Tech
Armed with my new skills and certification, I began my job search with renewed vigor. The projects and internship that I participated in during the boot camp were instrumental in landing interviews. Today, I work as a Robotics Automation Technician at a tech startup, where I am learning about robotics and automation skills daily. Recently, I led the development team in finding bugs in the program of an automated manufacturing system, a project that directly benefited from my knowledge gained at TripleTen.

I Had No Prior Experience |
I believe my QA certification along with years of transferable skills in electrical engineering allowed me to be able to land this role in Robotics and Autonomy |

I Applied What I Learned |
Now that I am in the field, I applied what I learned at the boot camp. Now I work on coding, diagnosing bugs and learning coding languages like “Python”. |
As a QA engineer, my role is to find bugs and errors in the system by running manual and automated tests .

Benefits of A Tech Boot Camp
Comprehensive Curriculum:
With a total of 9 Sprints, The program covered the latest tech skills, ensuring you stay ahead in the rapidly evolving tech landscape.
Hands-On Projects:
The end of each sprint, it gives you the opportunity to put into practice what you learned with simulated projects. Engaged in projects that mirror real-world scenarios, providing practical experience and building a robust portfolio.
Supportive Instructors:
My personal favorite part is this.. Access to knowledgeable and approachable instructors who guided you through challenging concepts and provided valuable feedback. I found this helpful for my sprints as they get more challenging as you progress in the boot camp.
Strong Community:
Being part of their community on Discord allowed me to connect with peers, students and teachers, especially when I had a question about any assignment, I would post on the thread and get an answer or advice. Became part of a supportive community of peers, fostering collaboration and networking opportunities.
Job Placement Assistance:
Received dedicated job placement assistance, including resume reviews, mock interviews, and networking events. Weekly meetings with my career coach on advice and suggestions on how to tweak my resume.
Career Support:
Ongoing career support, with access to resources and guidance even after completing the bootcamp.
Flexible Learning:
Offering flexible learning options that accommodated your schedule and learning pace.I enjoyed this part because it was not a live class, due to my busy career, the flexibility of doing at your own time with sprints, was essential for me and needs.

They have many options, but I chose an option that I was not available to qualify for in other bootcamps. I could not qualify for financial aid or loans, but TripleTen allowed me to make monthly affordable installments without the need of financial aid or a loan.
Cutting-Edge Tools:
Gained proficiency in industry-standard tools and technologies, making you job-ready from day one. Tools such as Javascript,Vscode and webdriverio and many more.
Personal Growth:
I gained confidence with each Sprint, as I applied what I learned to the next Sprint like a building block with the help of teachers like Alexsandr and other experienced mentors on their platform. Experienced significant personal growth, gaining confidence and resilience through overcoming challenges and achieving milestones.
Portfolio Development:
Building a diverse and impressive portfolio showcasing your skills and projects to potential employers.

Testimonies from My Peers
There is no doubt in my mind that without the support of my peers, alumni, mentors, tutors, career coaches, and family, I would not have been able to land a role in the tech field. The strong community at TripleTen played a crucial role in my success, and I thank you all.
